A girls' day in McElhinney's

The prestigious McElhinney’s department store of Ballybofey in Donegal had recently invited myself, my Mother and my sister down to wander around their occasion-wear to see all that they had to offer.

Agreeing without hesitation, we ventured down to McElhinney’s, and were greeted by the lovely manager, Sarah.  Sarah was so accommodating and made sure that we were receiving the best care and attention during our visit.

Sarah explained to us that McElhinney’s womenswear may be often perceived as being for the older woman, but that this was not the case, as we soon found out.

Upon exploring the most diverse range of labels, we did not only see that there were styles to suit the woman in her 50s (and above), 30s, 20s, but also to suit every eclectic taste.
What stood out to me the most was the fact that there were endless choices of styles, colours, lengths, and prices.

Mandy of the womenswear department was very kind to help us get insight to all that was of choice, including hats and accessories. Mandy didn’t tell us what to choose, she asked us what we usually preferred and from there she worked around us, adhering to our own individual styles and preferences. She also encouraged us to step outside our comfort zone.

After trying on the most luxurious dresses, we were then given afternoon tea.
After we had succumbed to the beautiful scones with jam and cream, alongside the most fresh tray-bakes, we fixed ourselves up to try on more clothes.

This time we looked at the casual range, and I literally couldn’t believe they had the GIGI for Tommy Hilfiger in-store. Whilst it’s not my usual style, I nonetheless enjoyed trying it on for size.

As you've seen, McElhinney's can make you the Mother of the Bride on one day, and every bit the modern, chic woman the next day.
I want to thank ALL the staff at McElhinney's, Sarah, Mandy and a special thanks to Carina. It was a great day for myself, my mum and sister and it really was not only about the clothes, but the entire experience also. It's no wonder McElhinney's has such an award-winning reputation.

The Buff Day Spa, Dublin

Last weekend my boyfriend and I met in Dublin. We stayed in the luxurious Clyde Court hotel in Ballsbridge, which is my favourite area in Dublin. I just love the rustic charm of the architecture of the town houses and the old Irish atmosphere that the air seems to have preserved from the centuries before us.
My boyfriend always spoils me wherever we go, so I thought that this time I’d surprise him with a ‘Swedish Full Body’ massage on the Saturday morning at the Buff Day Spa. I chose the Buff Day Spa due to the reviews and personal recommendations.
So on the Saturday morning we arrived, quite late may I add due to the fact that we were full up from the beautiful breakfast we had at our hotel. It’s no secret that we love our food!!

So once we arrived we were greeted by the most pleasant staff. I was summoned to the ladies’ changing room where I was given my own locker which contained a beautiful fluffy bathroom, chic little sandals and the loveliest little gesture in the form of a little square chocolate, which I ate of course despite barely being able to stand since my breakfast. This girl forgets everything else when chocolate is within reach, and don’t tell me I’m the only one.

After I filled out my ‘Client Consultation Form’, in which I was asked about my preferred ‘Massage Pressure’ and my hopes for my treatment, I was then ushered into the ‘Emerald Room’ which, to me, was a relaxing and soothing sanctuary.  My masseuse was the lovely Claire, and she asked me a few questions regarding how I was feeling in terms of how tensed and stressed I had been feeling over the last week. I had told her I was feeling more stressed than usual due to a recent bereavement. From that Claire went and created a mixture of essential oils that was suited to my needs which we had discussed.

When I was ready for my massage Claire asked me to take three deep breaths of the essential oil mixture. I felt instantly relaxed. Claire began with my legs and feet, worked up onto my back and shoulders (where I had the most tension) and down my arms and hands. For that hour I was in heaven as Claire worked out the knots and uptight muscles in my shoulders, back and legs. I then turned around and had a warm eye mask laid on me whilst Claire worked on the front side of my legs, arms and shoulders.

After the most blissful experience I was then offered to relax more in the ‘Tranquillity Room’, this was a low lit room with soothing music, and a water feature that had the most relaxing sound of trickling water. The room also hosted a few relaxation beds, bean bags and corner seating.
After I enjoyed taking full advantage of the Tranquillity room I then went back into the Ladies’ changing room where I had full access to the amenities, and I even got the chance to do my hair and have a little look around whilst my boyfriend was still getting his massage.

What Stephen has to say about his experience…

“Calming from the moment I stepped in, whether it was the receptionist, masseuse or other employees. Although I didn't know what to expect, I was talked through the process and made to feel comfortable. The actual massage was perfect, knowing the areas that needed attention with the soothing sounds of music in my ear. I was in a delirious state of relaxation after, as my body felt reset."

A Wedding in Rome

I sit here writing this post whilst listening to the rain pelting off the windows, it feels like bullets wounding my daydream and bringing me back to reality. There is a soft rosy hue from the lamp beside me, it reminds me of its company with a subtle flicker now and then. It’s my only form of light now since darkness is winning the battle with the light of day.

I’m listening to ‘Benedictus’ by the 2Cellos with my earphones in whilst Peter Barlow is pleasantly silenced, sparing me from his insufferable acting, and letting me imagine that there’s a completely different plot…and I suddenly I think ‘What if I were a screen writer?’. – No chance Caroline, you’d not be able to turn Coronation Street into a Sherlock Holmes meets The Lord of the Rings musical with the fashion of the Upper East Side.
I give the thought up immediately.

It continues to rain, and I find myself in a daydream again. This time I find myself staring at a Weeto on the floor that I seemed to have dropped when I decided to have a bowl of Weetos an hour ago.
I stare at the Weeto and find it’s crusty circular circumference reminding me of the Colosseum, and I find myself lamenting my brilliant time at the wedding in Rome I was at recently with spectacular people who I’d love to be sharing wine with this very evening.
So, my blog post is dedicated to the amazing friends and my gentleman of a boyfriend for making my time in Rome one that will be remembered with all the eternity of the city of Rome itself.
